Available in early February from SK Telecom

Mobile phone maker Motorola announced on Sunday the launch of the first Android 2.0 handset on the Korean market, namely the Motorola MOTOROI. According to the company, the new device comes towards Korean users with multitasking capabilities, while also delivering pinch-and-zoom browsing, as well as great navigation functionality when it comes to music, videos, and maps.

The new mobile device features a large 3.7-inch display that boasts a WVGA (480 x 854 pixel) display, Wi-Fi connectivity, the high-speed Android Web Kit Browser, Motorola’s touch user interface, a great deal of customization features via widgets, as well as access to the Android Market and the wide range of applications available for download for Google's operating system, and to various other services from Google, including Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, or Google Talk.

“We are delighted to announce MOTOROI, the first Android-based phone, with SK Telecom in Korea, a key partner in one of Motorola’s key markets in the world, ” said Sanjay Jha, co-chief executive officer of Motorola and chief executive officer of Motorola Mobile Devices. “MOTOROI is a smart phone without compromise, delivering a wiser, richer web and messaging experience with the most delightful touch-interface you have ever experienced, all made possible through the combination of Motorola’s expertise in design, a truly differentiated Android experience, and the power of SK Telecom’s network.”

In addition, the device includes an 8-megapixel photo snapper with Xenon flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities, not to mention the possibility to easily view and share high quality photos and videos. According to Motorola, its new MOTOROI handset is also the first mobile phone released to the market in Korea with HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) capabilities. The features / specs list of MOTOROI further includes a music player, 3.5mm ear jack, 8GB of internal memory coupled with a microSD memory card with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, a unique docking station, support for smart widgets, various input methods (a 3X4 keypad, full QWERTY, half QWERTY, hand writing and writing pad), or proximity sensor, along with support for multiple email accounts, Gmail Contacts sync, Microsoft and PDF document viewer, Optical Character Recognition, and more.

According to the handset vendor, the new Android-based MOTOROI should become available for purchase in Korea in early February. “Motorola’s smart phones powered by Android are receiving tremendous response around the world, and it is our pleasure to introduce one of them for the first time in Korea,” said Ha Sung-min, MNO president of SK Telecom. “MOTOROI by Motorola will bring a paradigm shift in the domestic mobile market with outstanding Internet, multimedia features and access to the fast-growing Android Market.”
