Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been long rumored to plan the release of a direct successor for the DROID X smartphone from Motorola it launched on shelves last year, and some more info on the said device started to emerge.

Following a series of reports on the possible specs that the new handset, supposedly dubbed Motorola DROID X2, might include, some benchmarking results that emerged on NenaMark's page seem meant to confirm some of the hardware packed inside it.

Apparently, the DROID X2 smartphone would arrive on shelves with an Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor packed inside it, which should offer increased performance levels when compared to the single-core predecessor.

However, it's interesting to note that the benchmarking results show that the DROID X2 would be only the tenth fastest smartphone on NenaMark's page.

Of course, the device that was tested might have not been anywhere close to the final flavor that would land on shelves, and the lower test results would make sense. Hopefully, as the device nears its official release, its performance would improve.

The Tegra2 SOC inside DROID X2 is reportedly clocked in at 1GHz, the same as with other devices out there. The mobile phone was tested with Android 2.2.2 Froyo on board, but it is expected to run under a newer version of the OS once it is brought shelves.

Another piece of info on the new mobile phone that emerged courtesy of these benchmarks would be the fact that it should sport a qHD display when available (it would boast a 960 x 540 pixel resolution).

The new pieces of info from NenaMark (via Pocketnow and Blog of Mobile) add to the previously spotted photos with the yet unannounced mobile phone, and also confirm that the handset would land at Big Red.

However, we should also note that the DROID X2 is only one of the new Android phones that Motorola and Verizon were rumored to plan for the near future, and that a DROID 3 smartphone was also spotted at large not too long ago.
