Since the highly-acclaimed Motorola DROID Android smartphone has been “replicated” in the form of a special, limited edition R2D2 model, a lot of people were harsh with the device's look. Even though the Android is the operating system of the moment, it seems that the Star Wars edition of the DROID received a lot of negative feedback.

Still, even the Apple's iPhone 4 received a high amount of negative feedback, but people were still sleeping at the AT&T doors with 8-10 hours before its launch, just to be among the first to buy one.

The guys over BoyGeniusReport have some special news regarding the events that will precede the DROID R2D2 launch in the US.

According to them, Verizon Wireless selected stores will be giving away five DROID R2D2. I'm not sure if every store launching the device will be participating in this campaign, but it seems that all stores will only sell 200 units.

Further, none of these stores will replenish their stocks after the 200 units will be sold, as this is a limited edition smartphone.

The report also mentions the presence at the event of “Stormtroopers”, which are played by stores employees in disguise, as well as live DJs and video gaming (Star Wars series).

Another piece of information highlights the fact that Motorola DROID R2D2 limited edition comes with an improved 1.2GHz processor, unlike the standard smartphone which features a 1GHz CPU.

Star Wars fans, but also Android lovers will be able to attend to the special event, that takes place at around 100 Verizon stores, on 29th between 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Rumors say that only 50,000 units will be sold and the purchasing will be limited to only two units per person.

This means that there are more than 200 stores across the country that will be selling the device, but less than half will participate in this special midnight event.
