Motorola Europe has just confirmed the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for Milestone 2, which is expected to roll out in early Q4.

The company's move makes sense in light of the recently announced Gingerbread soak tests for the DROID 2 units.

For those out of the loop, Motorola Milestone 2 is the European variant of the DROID 2. The Milestone 2 was launched on the market a few months after the DROID 2.

Although no further details have been given, Motorola stated that information on timing for each European country will be made available in due time.

Hallo all! We can confirm that we expect the Android 2.3 upgrade for Milestone 2 users to begin rolling out in early Q4. More details on timing for each country will be shared closer to availability,” Motorola Europe.

According to Motorola's post published on its official Facebook account, it is possible for some Milestone 2 users to get the Gingerbread update next year.

Even though the smartphone has the hardware needed to run the next generation Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, we doubt that Motorola will be inclined to upgrade the phone's software further.

Motorola Milestone 2 is equipped with a single core TI OMAP3630 processor clocked at 1GHz and packs 512MB of RAM, which should meet the minimum requirements of the upcoming mobile platform.

In this regard, the search giant stated at this year's Google I/O event that most phones that could run Android 2.3 Gingerbread would be able to run the Ice Cream Sandwich as well.

Following Google's acquisition of Motorola, it is possible for some of its handset to receive future software upgrades faster than before, but this is not guaranteed.

All in all, it looks like DROID 2 users will get the Gingerbread update a few months before it will land in Europe.
