A new software update is now available for download for the owners of a Motorola Milestone II smartphone on the airwaves of Vodafone Australia.

The wireless carrier has just announced the availability of the new software and unveiled that users will be able to download it either over the air or through a desktop PC.

“For Motorola Milestone II users, an update software release (Android 2.2.2) is now available for download,” the wireless services provider announced.

Vodafone Australia notes on its blog that the new software is only a maintenance update, thought it does bring a series of new features and enhancements.

The release notes for the new platform version include: - Improved email messaging widget functionality - Improved Bluetooth functionality - Music Application enhanced - Media Gallery performance improvement As noted above, the OS flavor included with the new update is Android 2.2.2, while the build number of the file is MIL2_U6_2.4.24. The carrier also notes that the update comes with system version 62.4.24.Vodafone.en.AU.

The new update weighs in at around 15MB, and can be downloaded over the the air (Blur Over The Air or BOTA, “Motorola’s way of saying FOTA”) for free.

Those who would like to perform the update via a desktop PC will need to have the Motorola Software Upgrade installed on the computer and the mobile phone connected to it.

Before proceeding with the software update, users should consider performing a backup of their devices, so as to make sure that all of their files are safe provided that something wrong happens.
