A new Motorola handset has received a software update recently, namely the Motorola CLIQ XT, which got its firmware bumped to version 1.32.20. The new software update does not bring along an upgraded operating system, but there are a nice range of enhancements that CLIQ XT owners out there would enjoy, including the availability of the SWYPE Keyboard for their handsets.

The new update comes with the latest version of the SWYPE software, providing an increase in the overall performance levels the application can deliver.

At the same time, Motorola says that the performance of the device was enhanced too, and that the phone is more responsive than before.

These improvements should be observed when opening applications, answering calls, opening the Happenings widget, or when downloading attachments and pictures within email.

Other enhancements included in the software would be:

Additional Stability

Improved stability, resulting in fewer occurrences of unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly

Bluetooth Performance

Improved performance and connectivity with other Bluetooth devices

Messaging

Prevents erroneous notifications that a message has not been sent. Also resolves MMS sending / receiving functionality issues in certain scenarios

Touchscreen

Improved touch screen sensitivity and touch response

According to Motorola, CLIQ XT users out there should consider downloading the software solution via a Wi-Fi or a 3G connection.

Users should also make sure that the battery in their devices is fully charged, and that the SIM card in inserted in the phone.

The firmware should be sen over the air, and all CLIQ XT users would be notified on its arrival. When prompted, users should select Download and then Install now.

The handset would restart automatically after the installation process is over. Additional info on the new firmware can be found here.

Although this is only a maintenance update, and not the Android 2.1 update that Motorola CLIQ XT users have been waiting for, it is a welcomed improvement, especially with that Swype keyboard added to the mix.
