A true special edition

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be, without a doubt, one of the biggest titles to appear this fall, fact admitted even by competitors of large publisher Activision. Being the follow-up to one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2007, it will certainly be welcomed by gamers with open arms and wallets.

The latter will especially be under some stress if gamers decide they want one of the two special editions made for the game, the Hardened or the Prestige version. While the first will have your typical swag for just 80 dollars, if you want a pair of night vision goggles or other such things, the Prestige edition will take up to $149.

But don't think that you can wait it out and hope that that price will drop after a few months, as the community manager and director of communications for Infinity Ward, which is making the game, has revealed that the special and quite pricey edition will be limited in number, in order to preserve the truly exclusive nature of it.

“We've already been asked by retailers to up the production numbers due to demand,” Bowling said, “which we immediately denied. We decided from the beginning that we want this to be for the hardcore fans and early adopters. The fact that it is actually limited is one of the coolest parts, which is why we've individually numbered every copy.”

Bowling has revealed that fans need to pre-order it fast if they don't want to miss out on this very special edition. “It was important to us that this be a true collectors' edition and as such, we do one run, and it's finished. The Prestige Edition is NOT something you're going to be seeing on the cheap 2 months after launch.”

There you have it, Call of Duty fans, if you don't hurry up, then no night vision goggles for late night playing sessions for you.
