A lot of video games will appear this fall for a lot of platforms, but one of the most important is Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the hugely successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Developed by Infinity Ward and set to be published by Activision, the game is eagerly anticipated by a lot of people.

But, as it seems, not the same amount of people if the game had featured the Call of Duty brand on it, as revealed by a recent analysis. We reported that fewer people would have manifested interest in the game if it hadn't had the Call of Duty brand on it, and it seems that Activision got the message and has just announced that, after all, the title will be entitled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The company hasn't offered a lot of details about this move or about the precise reasons of the back and forth movements between the two titles. Also, the picture that proves the new game has been posted on the Twitter account of Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling.

“Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,” a spokesperson revealed. “We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package.”

Both Activision and Infinity Ward informed, after they formally announced Modern Warfare 2, that it would be the first sequel in the Call of Duty series, and that the name would further reflect it. Now, it seems that brand awareness has won, and the CoD brand will certainly boost the sales this great title will be earning when it will be launched in November this year.

Do you believe that this move is the best, or that, even if the game hadn't been as known in the Modern Warfare 2 state, it would have sold quite well? Leave a comment to this story with your thoughts.
