MetroPCS Communications, Inc., the leading wireless carrier that offers unlimited, flat-rate, no signed contract services, announced recently the launch of a new mobile phone for its subscribers, the Samsung Code. The new handset is the first smartphone powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system the carrier adds to its offering, and is set to provide a wide range of productivity and organization capabilities to those who are on the go most of the time.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on MetroPCS’ Samsung Code comes with the entire Microsoft suite of tools, such as contacts, calendar, tasks, notes, voice recorder and Windows Live features. Moreover, the handset also sports the optional WizPro interface that enables users to perform customizations for their home screen, as well as to create shortcuts to the apps and features they use the most, including messages, calendar appointments and more.

“We are excited to add another smartphone to our lineup of the latest handsets,” said Roger D. Linquist, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of MetroPCS. “In a time when consumers want more from a phone than simply to talk or text, our customers will be able to take full advantage of the Samsung Code’s advanced features and services that will give them an enriched wireless experience. This is just another example of how MetroPCS is providing customers with more, all while maintaining the economical unlimited, flat-rate service that they can expect from MetroPCS.”

Samsung Code also sports a QWERTY keyboard, a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper, Stereo Bluetooth capabilities, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, email and messaging capabilities, a full HTML Web browser, Microsoft Outlook Mobile and ActiveSync support for phone syncing, and Handmark’s Windows Mobile application store. “Samsung Mobile is excited to launch its first Windows Mobile 6.1 powered smartphone to MetroPCS customers,” said Paul Golden, chief marketing officer of Samsung Telecommunications America. “The Samsung Code gives users the ability to balance work and personal communication with a variety of applications and features.”

The new Windows Mobile-powered device is available from MetroPCS at a price tag of $299, and can be purchased from any MetroPCS company-owned retail locations and authorized dealers.
