Unlimited, contract-less wireless communications service provider MetroPCS announced on Tuesday that it had selected the infrastructure and handset vendors for the launch of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) Broadband services, slated for the second half of 2010. According to the company, Ericsson will be the infrastructure provider for its LTE network, while Samsung Mobile will be in charge with delivering the first LTE handset for the carrier.

As many of you might already know, MetroPCS has been encouraging users to choose wireless mobility over landline services, and it is offering them unlimited, flat-rate, no-signed-contract plans. According to the company, the deployment of LTE should enable it to deliver enhanced Internet services to its users, so that they can experience a richer HTML browsing experience without having to stay connected to a wired network.

“Ericsson is honored to be chosen by MetroPCS as their LTE/EPC infrastructure supplier for its LTE service launch,” said Angel Ruiz, president and CEO of Ericsson North America. “We look forward to using our leadership in LTE technology to help MetroPCS usher in a new era of communications and transform the mobile-broadband user experience for their customers.”

Roger D. Linquist, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of MetroPCS, stated that the company was happy to have chosen technology leaders Ericsson and Samsung for the initial deployment of LTE, the next-generation technology in wireless technology. At the same time, he also expressed the carrier's contentedness to be among the first in the world to deliver 4G broadband data services to its users.

“We anticipate to begin offering our 4G LTE services and a dual-mode LTE/CDMA smartphone in our major metropolitan markets in late 2010. When launched, our customers will benefit from our next generation, leading-edge network technology which will enable true high-speed Internet access in the palm of their hand. With the announcement of our LTE launch vendors, MetroPCS will move directly to 4G,” Linquist stated. More details on the company and its offering can be found here.
