Kojima was this close to quit working for Konami

As a well known gaming site managed to snag a copy of the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine, some interesting details were revealed today, one of which is Hideo Kojima's 20th anniversary for the Metal Gear series. Below are some excerpts of the interview with the series' creator.

Looking back on his early days with Konami, as 1UP.com reports, Kojima says: "The company told me to make a war-themed game for the MSX2. At that time, Capcom's Commando was really popular in the arcades. Although to be honest, I did not want to make a war-themed game. So I came up with a game concept like the movie The Great Escape where players would try to escape from prison without using any weapons."

However, as the reporting site informs, staff members didn't feel like giving Kojima a hand with his ideas at that time. As a result, Kojima was just about to quit the project and say good bye to the company as well, but... "One day, my older co-worker asked me 'what type of game do you want to make?' I insisted on The Great Escape game. So he told me to write up a concept proposal, and when he read it, he told me he has not seen this type of game before. He negotiated with our boss and finally the project was given the go signal. He was really a great guy, actually he was the man behind Gradius."

That's making a change folks. In fact, that's what each and every one of us needs to accomplish to be able to say "I've brought something to this world!" No, not a video game necessarily. I don't know, a good soup recipe would be nice, I guess. Anyway, Hideo Kojima surely has some good times to look back to. We congratulate him for that. Not many people in this world can say the same.
