Now that season 12 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars has come to a glorious end, pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who was runner-up with Kirstie Alley, is weighing his options – and he says he may not return next season.

After last night’s season finale, reporters caught up with Maks to ask him about the next season and, more importantly, whether he’ll return to the competition.

It’s too soon to tell, the dancing pro told them, but there’s a slight chance he’ll be sitting this one out.

“I don’t know. It takes a lot out of you,” Maks says in an interview cited by PopEater, when asked about coming back to season 13 of the show.

“When you invest that much of you into something that’s supposed to be just work you [can] get misinterpreted. I don’t know [if I’m coming back]. We’ll see. Right now, I’m drained,” he adds.

Of course, Maks is not lacking options: as he’s preparing to open up a dance school in Los Angeles, he should (and might) also consider going into movies, as his partner for this season, Kirstie Alley, says.

“He’s got good qualities. He’s handsome, he’s got a good voice and he’s funny,” the actress explains. And the list can go on.

“He’s got other qualities... he’s broody, he’s deep. All the bad boy actors are like that. He could be a really great actor if he wanted to act,” Alley adds.

If Maks takes next season of DWTS off, it wouldn’t be the first time he does that: having joined the team in the second season, he went on a break during season 6.

He wouldn’t be the only dancer to sit out one season to focus on other projects either: as fans must already know and as we informed you a while back, Derek Hough did the same this season.

Incidentally, he too took the time off to focus on his acting career.
