Maksim Chmerkovskiy is not only a talented professional dancer on ABC’s hit competition Dancing With the Stars – he also has a heart of gold. Having learned of a fan of the show and her long battle with cancer, Maks managed to give her the surprise of her life.

TMZ has learned that the instant the dancer was first made aware of the fan’s case, he was already thinking about what he could do to bring her on set for the live show.

He spoke with producers and various others to get her a VIP seat for last night’s show – and was relentless in his bid to make the fan happy, the e-zine says.

“Sources connected to the production tell us Maksim had been furiously trying to set up the perfect evening for a special VIP guest, asking for front row seats for tonight’s show along with special backstage passes,” TMZ writes.

Admittedly, Maksim heard of the woman’s case through common friends and, once he did, he was already planning the surprise.

“We’re told a friend of Maksim’s informed the dancer about a woman who was having a really tough time with recent cancer treatments – and she happened to be a fan of the show,” TMZ says.

“So Maksim sprung into action, instantly trying to do everything he could to help get her mind off the pain,” the e-zine adds.

Last night, the cancer sufferer got to see the show from a front-row seat, and also had backstage passes to meet the celebrities and their professional dancer partners, including Maksim and his partner Kirstie Alley.

Speaking of which, after a Twitter storm between the two during rehearsals, Kirstie and Maksim debuted strong, leaving even favorite to win Kendra Wilkinson in the dust.

Check out the Cha-Cha that earned them 23 points from the judges below. Kendra is reportedly determined to turn the table in the next editions of the show – so keep an eye on this space for more on this.
