Maingear, a company well renowned for the high performance desktops and laptops it manufactures, has announced the introduction of its fastest mobile workstation yet, the Titan 17, which is powered by Intel's six-core 990X processor and by dual Nvidia GTX 485 graphics cards, configured to run in SLI.

The GTX 485M is Nvidia's fastest mobile GPU and is equipped with 384 CUDA cores, 56 texture address units, 32 ROPs, a 256-bit memory interface and 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

Nvidia's graphics card is connected to a 17.3-inch LED backilit LCD, treated with a special anti-glare coating, which is capable of displaying 1920x1080 pixels.

In addition to the desktop Core i7 990X Extreme Edition processor used, which has a clock speed of 3.46GHz, the notebook can be configured with as much as 12GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory, three SSD or HDD storage drives and a Blu-ray burner.

The rest of the notebook's specifications fall in line with what we have come to expect from such solutions, as the Titan 17 includes dual USB 3.0 ports, FireWire and eSATA connectivity, HDMI and DVI video outputs, a media card reader as well as high-definition audio.

What is surprising, however, is the inclusion of a Bigfoot Networks Wireless-N 1102 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card, as this is the first time I see this NIC used inside a computer system (portable or desktop).

“The Maingear Titan 17 offers it all; the best of a desktop in a mobile form factor,” said Wallace Santos, CEO and co-founder of Maingear Computers.

“With the power of the latest Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition desktop processor, dual GPUs and high performance wireless, this system lives up to its name to give our customers the best PC experience they have come to expect from Maingear.”

The pricing of the Titan 17 starts at $2,799, but, unfortunately, Maingear hasn't detailed the configuration of the base system.
