The annual simulation created using the latest video game in the Madden NFL series of football games has been run by publisher Electronic Arts and the game engine says that this year's Super Bowl XLV will be won by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will defeat the Green Bay Packers 24 to 20.

EA Sports has made a habit out of putting out simulated results before the biggest encounter of the season, aiming to show off how well its game engine is able to simulate real life sports.

Last year Madden NFL 10 predicted that the Saints would win over the Colts 35 to 31, while the actual result at the end of the Super Bowl match was 31 to 17.

The EA Sports franchise was much closer in 2009 when it came within one actual point of predicting that the Steelers would beat the Cardinals 27 to 23.

Madden NFL 11 is fed a variety of data, from real life form to variables like the possibility of injuries and the experience of the players involved in each play to decide the Super Bowl winner.

Madden NFL 11 says that Mike Wallace, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will get the Most Valuable Player award for his five catches and touchdown.

Here's a snippet from how EA Sports believes the final quarters will play out, “With no timeouts, Rodgers led Green Bay into Pittsburgh territory as the nail-biting contest drew to a close. In a last second desperation attempt, Rodgers targeted receiver Jordy Nelson, but Steelers safety, Ryan Clark, picked off the pass, clinching Pittsburgh’s Super Bowl XLV victory.”

Electronic Arts has said that Madden NFL 11 has gone over the 5 million copies sold in terms of sales, but the future of the franchise is a bit cloudy at the moment, as a strike from NFL players might impact the launch of Madden NFL 12.
