Madden NFL 11, the latest entry in the extremely popular football video game franchise, will be getting a special type of 3D technology, called Doritos 3D, with the help of the promotion in partnership with the popular snack brand.

Don't go thinking this is some new sort of 3D technology, as Doritos 3D won't turn the players on the field into snack bags or anything like that.

Instead, it will just offer the game in regular 3D on any type of TV, as just a pair of red and cyan glasses are required.

In order to unlock the new mode, Madden NFL 11 owners will need to purchase specially marked bags of Doritos, which will contain instructions to get a downloadable code.

Once you have the code, you need to start up Madden NFL 11 on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, go to the Online or Xbox Live options, respectively, and enter the code.

If successful, you will have a brand new mode unlocked, which can be chosen through the Game Settings screen after you chosen the team you want to play with.

You'll need a pair of 3D glasses, and even if any regular pair of red and cyan ones will do, Doritos is offering specially branded ones available at this website for just $2.99 with shipping and handling included.

"Through our work with EA SPORTS, we are committed to finding ways to elevate the gaming experience and give fans control over their biggest and best gaming moments," said Rudy Wilson, vice president, marketing, Frito-Lay. "That's why now we are pushing the limits and giving fans unprecedented access to enjoy their favorite football video game in 3-D."

While EA Sports boss Peter Moore said that 3D isn't something that he considers worthwhile, given the impact on the frame-rate, it seems that his company does want to offer such an experience to gamers.
