Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it is very pleased with the initial performance of its sports simulation title Madden NFL 11, saying that the video game will be the best selling title in North America for the month of August and that overall sales are up over the same period of last year by about 5 percent.

Madden NFL 11 was far stronger than its predecessors when it comes to the digital element, with the Ultimate Team game mode leading revenue from the online play to increase by about 200 percent over the previous version of the game.

The new Madden NFL has the Online Pass feature that makes certain multiplayer elements free only to those who buy the video game new.

More than 2 million online game sessions have been registered every day since the video game launched with about a fifth of the number using the new Online Team Play mode, designed to allow players to play 3 on 3 matches with and against friends.

Electronic Arts says that 85 percent of gamers have tried out and liked the new Game Flow feature that is introduced by Madden NFL 11, allowing for players to quickly select the play they are interested in so that overall game time can be shortened while the immersion factor remains unchanged.

Electronic Arts also says that the new game is a hit on Apple devices and that it will soon have a significant following on the social network Facebook, with the launch of Madden NFL Superstars.

Peter Moore, who is the outspoken president of EA Sports, has stated, “Madden NFL 11 is the number one selling game in August, and the game has created enormous enthusiasm in the online community. Each day on consoles, fans are playing as many games online as the equivalent of 750 full NFL seasons. Now on Facebook, Madden NFL Superstars will bring a whole new dimension and audience to the Madden NFL experience.”
