Summer has always marked a drought in terms of new video game releases, as a lot of people prefer spending their hard-earned money on vacations or trips around the world, rather than staying at home and passing time with a video game.

This is why not a lot of blockbuster titles are appearing at this time of the year. But all of this will change at the middle of August, when EA Sports will release the newest iteration of its hit football simulator, Madden NFL 10.

Scheduled for its launch on Friday, August 14, the game has now officially gone gold, meaning that all there is left to do is to reproduce the master disc and ship the title to retailers across the world. Alongside this great news for sports fans, the EA press release also tells a few interesting things about the demos of the title, which will be appearing at the end of the month for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 users.

Set to feature night game in heavy snow with the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants, the first demo will certainly become a highly coveted download for many users. Those who want to experience the new features of Madden NFL 10 and can't wait until July 30 can reserve it at GameStop in exchange for a voucher that will guarantee access to an exclusive second demo, which will consist of a Super Bowl XLIII rematch between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.

Just to showcase just how important this release will be, EA Sports also mentions that thousands of retail stores across the United States will be holding midnight openings in order for fans to get their hands on the game as soon as possible.

Overall, with many new details, features and gameplay modifications, Madden NFL 10 is looking great and will certainly make a lot of sports fans extremely happy during these dry summer months in terms of video games.
