New and final trailer for “Super 8” premieres at the MTV Movie Awards 2011

One of the movies that promise to shake up things this summer at the box office is J.J. Abrams’ super secret project “Super 8.” With only one week to go until the release, Paramount Pictures premiered a new trailer for it at theMTV Movie Awards 2011.

So far, the movie studio has done an excellent job at keeping fans guessing on what exactly is going on in “Super 8,” which also credits Steven Spielberg as producer.

The cat is halfway out the bag in this new exclusive footage – which you can also see below – since it offers a clearer glimpse at the devastation headed towards a small town after a mysterious train crash.

The video begins with a group of teenagers setting up a scene for their movie by a railroad, when the unthinkable happens: the train goes off the rails and something apparently huge and definitely very dangerous is let loose from it.

Of course, the army is involved in some capacity, which explains why later in the video, they’re all over the place, acting as if nothing has happened but, at the same time, taking all necessary measures to trap and isolate the unseen enemy / creature.

Unlike footage previously shown, this new trailer offers a bit more, but not in the sense that it shows the kind of enemy the characters are facing, but rather the damage it does.

As MTV puts it, the new trailer is a rush of action scenes which, nevertheless, blatantly sidesteps the question of the cause of everything.

“There are eerie non-human sound effects, quick cuts of a small town in turmoil over a series of inexplicable events, explosions, military officials trying to decide how to destroy the certain something that is causing all the destruction, and our kid heroes caught up in the middle of it,” MTV writes.

“So, wow. What does it all mean?” MTV asks.

Indeed, what could it all mean? Word online has it the thing doing all this damage in “Super 8” is something akin to the monster in “Cloverfield,” whose “identity” too was kept a secret from audiences until the release day.

Luckily, this time, fans won’t have to wait that long: “Super 8” is out in theaters in the US this Friday. In the meanwhile, check out the new trailer below.
