Mobile phone maker Motorola officially unveiled today the MOTO W7 Active Edition, a new sliding handset that has been recently spotted into the wild, and which features 3G connectivity, as well as motion capabilities. To be more precise, the new device includes an accelerometer capable of sensing the body’s motions, orientation and hand gestures in order to perform different tasks, offering mobile users a “moving” phone experience.

“For those who are always on the move, the MOTO W7 Active Edition is designed to keep up with the pace,” said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president, Motorola Mobile Devices. “The accelerometer technologies put a new spin on the traditional relationship we have with our phone by not only simplifying how you use it, but making it more fun in the process.”

The specification list of the new MOTO W7 includes a 2.2” display that can offer a 320 x 240 pixel (QVGA) resolution, 2.0-megapixel photo snapper and a second VGA camera for video calls, web browsing capabilities, Bluetooth connectivity with A2DP, USB 2.0, 30MB of internal memory and an external memory card slot that supports up to 8GB of additional storage space. At the same time, it also comes with an MP3 player, FM Radio and video playback capabilities.

The moving capabilities of the phone translate into the fact that the new MOTO W7 can be easily controlled through simple hand gestures, as well as through taps and flicks. When receiving a call, users can silence the handset by simply flipping it, and the same can be done for snoozing the alarm clock or pausing the music. In addition, it can also launch the favorite application when shaken twice, and move between photos in an album when the user flicks it to the right or left.

Moreover, the device comes with a built-in step pedometer that can record user's daily walks and runs, while also sporting a Personal Trainer application that can create a personal profile to help the workouts by creating a profile and offering summary reports. In addition, the phone can also offer a three-dimensional experience when it comes to mobile games, as they can be controlled through shaking, jumping and dancing.

The MOTO W7 includes a 910 mAh battery that can offer up to 480 minutes of talk time or up to 300 hours of standby time on GSM and up to 210 minutes of talk time or up to 300 minutes of standby time on WCDMA. According to the company, the new MOTO W7 Active Edition is expected to become available in the second quarter of the ongoing year in Asia and Latin America. The handset will come in two color schemes, Licorice and Alpine White.
