As a companion product

LittleBigPlanet is certainly hot property when it comes to PlayStation 3 games. Sony is probably expecting the Media Molecule designed game to drag the sales of the PS3 up come Christmas, alongside the release of Fallout 3 and Resistance 2. And if it does a good job, then Sony might just need the same game to salvage the PlayStation Portable.

I'm a bit sarcastic, but this is what Mark Healy's comments, co-founder of Media Molecule, made me think. While talking to Eurogamer, he said that “There's definitely scope for a PSP version. We've had discussions and talks, nothing concrete at the moment”.

The idea behind LittleBigPlanet is that it will provide players with a very flexible gaming environment, where they can create and then play their own adventures. A lot has been said about the possibility to create game levels over the Internet with friends but the game also offers a huge amount of already built levels that you can enjoy.

Healy believes that the experience can be ported to the Sony made handheld gaming platform. He says that “It'd be great to make, for the people who are really into the Create side, some kind of companion products that allow you to create things while you're on the train. One thing that I'd love to add is the ability to create your own music, for example, that you can import into the game. That seems like an obvious one to do and it'd be quite easy really”.

There's already evidence that a PSP version of LittleBigPlanet is in the making as a job announcement for PSP Game Engine Lead recently emerged.

LittleBigPlanet will make it on the PlayStation 3 on October 24, around the same time that Far Cry 2 and Dead Space are supposed to be released.
