Stores in Japan have begun selling a new encyclopedia for the entire Legend of Zelda franchise, which was produced by Eiji Aonuma, the man at Nintendo that also helmed the development process for the recently launched Skyward Sword.

The book is designed to offer a fan all the information he could ever want about the series and its main characters but so far the main attraction has been a series of Timelines of the game universe which talk about how the world would have evolved if Ganon had been able to defeat Link at the end of Ocarina of Time.

The encyclopedia says that with the main hero dead Ganon was able to obtain the entire Triforce but failed to get out of the Sacred Realm because of the combined efforts of the Seven Sages.

As time passed and Ganon managed to control the Triforce the Realm was corrupted in its entirety and a Sealing War takes place, which is referenced at some point during A Link to the Past.

The Legend of Zelda games, which have been published since the 1980’s, have always taken place in realities which seemed closely related but were not part of the exact same universe and fans have always argued about how they might be connected, especially because Nintendo refused to offer any sort of official explanation.

After the launch of Skyward Sword and perhaps aiming to attract a younger generation of fans, those who did not play the original releases, Nintendo has changed its stance and has offered a number of detailed timelines as part of the new authorized encyclopedia.

The company is widely thought to be working on a new Legend of Zelda game, under the guidance of Shigeru Miyamoto, which will be launched on the upcoming Wii U home console during next year.

Here’s a look at the encyclopedia:
