Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility is working on the delivery of Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform upgrades for its handsets as well, and two official ROMs for the company's DROID X and DROID 2 smartphones reportedly leaked into the wild.

The leaked software emerges shortly after a similar ROM was leaked for another high-end, popular smartphone on the market, the Samsung Galaxy S.

Not to mention that these ROMs surfaced amid reports regarding the availability of this software update for two mobile phones at Verizon Wireless sometime in the second quarter of the ongoing year, namely the ThunderBolt and the DROID Incredible.

However, although they are official ROMs, they arrived on the Internet in an unofficial manner, and can be seen on MyDroidWorld here and here, for the DROID X and DROID 2, respectively.

As the guys over at Android Police note in recent articles on the matter, the two ROMs come from TeamBlackHat, and they include the Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) software update that Motorola would plan on pushing to these devices in the near future.

Users interested in the downloading and installation of these leaked ROMs would need to have the DROID 2 Bootstrapper by Koush, or the DROID X Bootstrapper by Koush to make the move.

Specific info on the download and installation of the software can be found in the aforementioned forum threads over at MyDroidWorld.

Before proceeding with the download, keep in mind that these are only leaked ROMs, and that they might not represent the final software release that should come from Motorola and Verizon.

Thus, the installation process would require users to tweak their mobile phones, which would result in losing the warranty for them.

Not to mention that all signs point towards a quite near release date for the software update for Motorola's DROID devices at Verizon, and users could consider waiting for that to happen to be able to enjoy the benefits of Android 2.3.

However, no official confirmation on the availability of Gingerbread for DROID X and DROID 2 emerged for the time being.
