During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and Samsung Electronics announced the upcoming availability of a 4G LTE-based handset that should soon make it to the operator's offering. No official info on the name under which this handset would become available emerged for the time being, but rumors suggested that it might be released as Samsung Stealth, and that there might be more than one flavor of the handset planned for Verizon.

Following that set of rumors, new reports emerged, suggesting that the handset might actually become a member of the DROID family at Verizon. They also point at this phone being set to land on shelves as DROID Charge, since Stealth would be only its codename.

Whether true or false, it remains to be seen, but, for the time being, it seems that Verizon is indeed planning the launch of a Samsung 4G DROID Stealth handset, which might indeed prove to be the Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone unveiled in early 2011.

A leaked screenshot that emerged over at Android Central shows that the handset is on its way to Costco with an April 7th release date attached to it, and with a pre-order availability date set for March 24th.

Moreover, the leaked screenshot shows that the mobile phone would include a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display when released, along with a 1GHz Hummingbird application processor.

Other specifications of the device were confirmed too, including an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, complemented by a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera that would support video chat.

Verizon already made available for purchase its first smartphone that includes 4G LTE capabilities, the HTC ThunderBolt, and more of them should become available soon, including this Samsung device, as well as the LG Revolution or the Motorola DROID Bionic.

Provided that the release date for this device indeed pans out, it should not be too long before Verizon makes an official announcement on the matter. The company should confirm the phone's name as well, so stay tuned to learn more details on this.
