The LG Cookie (LG-KP500) has been available on the market since October 2008, and its maker, the Korean-based LG Electronics, announced today that the attractively priced full-touchscreen handset had been sold in more than two million units worldwide, although the market was affected by the economic turmoil.

According to the company, the LG Cookie includes a wide range of premium technologies and advanced features that can usually be found in high-end full-touchscreen handsets. More than 1.2 million of said units have been sold in Europe, while 600,000 went to Asia and emerging markets, including Latin America. The device is currently the most popular handset with more than “100,000 units in accumulated sales as of March this year and record one-day sales of 4,500 units.”

Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, stated the following: “We wanted to allow more people to benefit from the advanced touch technology that we introduced in previous touchscreen handsets. Because of our extensive background in touchscreen handsets, we are now able to bring this innovative technology to consumers at an affordable price without compromising quality with the LG Cookie.”

The handset sports a slim 11.9 mm body, and was launched in four color schemes, including Black, Vandyke Brown, Anodizing Silver, and Elegant Gold. Currently, there are ten color variants of the handset available on the market. The mobile phone maker states that it intends to “bake more Cookies with even more color options to match a variety of personal tastes.”

“LG Cookie’s strong sales and the subsequent launch of similar handsets from other manufacturers prove that LG continues to be an innovative leader in touch technology,” Dr. Ahn also stated. The handset is currently available in 40 countries, yet the company plans to increase their number to 60, so as to be able to reach the announced 10 million units in sales worldwide.
