Australian wireless carrier Optus is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new high-end Android-based mobile phone on its airwaves, namely the LG Optimus 3D.

The mobile phone, unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, would bring the power of 3D technology to the carrier's users, provided that the rumor would pan out.

For the time being, there are no specific details available on the release of this device through Optus, beside the image attached to this article, courtesy of Ausdroid.

The news site also notes that the new mobile phone might be set to land at Optus in early July, most probably on the carrier's $49 Cap, but no confirmation on this emerged for now.

The LG Optimus 3D is one of the most appealing smartphones launched during the ongoing year, especially due to its 3D capabilities.

The mobile phone comes with dual 5-megapixel cameras on the back (auto focus, LED flash), which would enable users record 3D content in HD, and also shoot 2D content when needed. The mobile phone also supports the playback of 3D videos.

The LG Optimus 3D sports a dual-core 1GHz application processor inside, along with dual-channel RAM, so that it would provide enhanced performance capabilities.

The mobile phone comes with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, delivering a 480 x 800 pixels resolution, and capable of rendering HD 3D content.

The Android-based handset also comes with HDMI port, as well as with 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The specifications list of this device would also include HSPA+ connectivity, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth, built-in GPS receiver, or a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The LG Optimus 3D packs a 1,500 mAh Li-Ion battery inside, measures 128.8 x 68 x 11.9 mm and weighs in at only 168 grams.
