South Korean mobile phone users have now the possibility to purchase a new high-end device that runs under Google's Android operating system, namely the LG Optimus 2X.

The new handset was already put on sale in the country, after being announced officially in late 2010 as the first smartphone in the world to pack a dual-core application processor inside.

The new mobile phone was made available for purchase on the local market on the airwaves of wireless carrier SK Telecom, following a period of pre-order, during which it enjoyed high-demand, it seems.

The new smartphone comes to shelves with an Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor inside, with dual cores clocked in at 1GHz each.

While 1GHz processors are not new, the LG Optimus 2X is the first smartphone to pack a dual-core one when launched on the market.

In all fairness, it is not the only such device announced for the ongoing year, as other handset vendors also went official with their own similar smartphones during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Currently the most powerful mobile device, the LG Optimus 2X is expected to land in a matter of weeks in more markets around the world.

Moreover, it seems that it might even arrive in more color flavors than before, as a white version of the device is also rumored to be on its way to users' hands soon.

No official announcement on this was made for the time being, but, given the large number of mobile phones rumored lately to receive a white version too, we wouldn't be surprised it LG Optimus 2X gets painted too.

As the photo attached to this article shows (via Engadget), LG is also touting a white flavor of the device, though it remains to be seen when exactly it would become available for purchase.

What should be noted here is that the LG Optimus 2X might come with a white front, although other handsets only got a white back cover.
