LG's first dual-core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X, is now listed as available for pre-order on the UK market, with a price tag of £499.99 attached to it, via online retailer Expansys.

The new mobile phone, powered by Google's Android 2.2 operating system, was unveiled officially last month, when rumors on its January availability in the UK also emerged, and it seems that they proved real in a way.

Although it is listed as available for pre-order, the new smartphone won't ship until February 21st, the retailer notes on its website.

Basically, that means that we'll have to wait more than 40 days for the new dual-core mobile phone to become available for purchase, provided that February 21st would indeed be the day when it starts shipping.

This is the first mobile phone in the world to pack a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 application processor, while also running under Google's Android operating system.

“The world's first dual core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X sets a new benchmark in performance,” the retailer notes on its website.

“Utilizing two 1GHz processor cores allows the LG Optimus 2X to record and playback video in full 1080p HD as well as providing smooth and fast web browsing and application multitasking with virtually no lag.”

The specifications list of the new mobile phone seems set to make it even more appealing than it already is.

The list includes a 4-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 800 x 400 pixels resolution, an 8-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and LED Flash, as well as with video recording capabilities. The handset comes with 8GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSDHC memory card slot with support for additional storage space, as well as with GPS receiver, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, and more.

Those UK users interested in placing a pre-order for this handset should head over to Expansys' website here to learn more on the deal.
