LG is definitely living up to its reputation as supplier of many different sorts of devices and hardware components, having just put together a pair of HDD lines that are more or less identical, save for their outer design.

While some IT players can make do with focusing on just one type of product, others make it a point to enter multiple markets at the same time, depending on their financial resources and, of course, IP (intellectual property).

LG is one of the latter types, being a vendor of not just mobile devices (smartphones and the like) but also laptops, 3D monitors and storage devices, among other things.

Apparently, a collection of storage devices is exactly what LG has developed, although, for now at least, they are only available in South Korea.

Granted, for a product to become available in one region and only later make it to other markets is a relatively common occurrence nowadays.

That said, the so-called collection of products is, in fact, a pair of hard disk drive series that cover the same capacity range.

In fact, the XE1 and XE2 series, as they are called, are actually identical, with the sole distinction being their cases.

While the XE1 has a glossy shell, the XE2 makes do with a matte design. This will allow the drives to appeal to a larger number of customers, since they fit more than one taste.

As far as capacity is concerned, three options exist, those being 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB, their prices ranging between 100,000 and 1,60,000 Won.

As for data transfer speeds, prospective buyers will no doubt be pleased to learn that the SuperSpeed, USB 3.0 standard is supported.

It is unclear just how much of the theoretical maximum bandwidth of 5 Gbps the LG XE1 and XE2 can use, since speeds weren't specifically mentioned. Either way, the USB 2.0 interface is backwards compatible, so PC compatibility is no issue.
