So far, LEGO has taken over all six Star Wars movies, the Batman franchise, and the Indiana Jones adventures. Now, LEGO is making a move from adventure to music with Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games, officially announcing that they are collaborating with Harmonix and MTV Games to create LEGO Rock Band.

Rumors about the title have been swirling around for more than six months, and the game has recently been all but confirmed by a set of slides related to a Game Developers Conference presentation. The official announcement says that the new title in the Rock Band family will arrive in time for the holidays this year, which means that all the parties implicated in the project are hoping to have a huge hit in their hands.

LEGO Rock Band is set to be published for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Nintendo Wii. A version of the title for the Nintendo DS is also planned, although it is not clear if it will be released at the same time as the other three. TT Games is telling that the music game will be family friendly and that the songs that will be included will appeal to “tweens and teens.”

At the moment, we know that tracks like Blur's “Song 2,” Carl Douglas' “Kung Fu Fighting,” Europe's “The Final Countdown,” Good Charlotte's “Boys and Girls,” and Pink's “So What” are included, and that the overall concept for the game will be influenced by the trademark humor of TT Games. The way music will be played in LEGO Rock Band has not been detailed and it's not clear what influence the use of LEGO figurines will have on the core mechanics.

At the moment, the big video game in development related to the Rock Band franchise is The Beatles title, which is set to arrive on September 9 and will catalog the rise of the British band.
