Although it might not have wanted to

It's funny how no one in the videogame industry seems to be able to keep a secret. There have been rumors related to a LEGO Rock Band being in development at Harmonix for quite some time now, but Electronic Arts and the developer itself have always refused to comment on rumors, which, of course, only served to give some credence to those whispering about the LEGO title.

Now, a Harmonix designer named Dan Teasedale might have all but confirmed the existence of LEGO Rock Band by way of a presentation slide that he submitted for approval to Activision just before his presentation at the Game Developers Conference.

The slide, initially seen by Kotaku, and which is attached to this article, is called “External Landscape” and, taking a quick look at it, you can see that between fiscal 2008 and 2009 and between titles called Rock Band PSP, which points to the newly announced Unplugged, and Beatles, there's a little block, representing a new game, which is simply labeled “LEGO.”

The slide also includes some Guitar Hero titles that have not been officially announced. There's a GH: VH, which is probably a Van Halen-themed game, and a GH: BH, which is a bit more mysterious. And there's, of course, further confirmation that Guitar Hero: Arcade is coming in 2009.

The slide could have it all wrong and no LEGO Rock Band game might ever see the light of day. But the possibility for this is remote and players who have enjoyed using plastic instruments to guide animated images to glory and fame in the Rock Band series can probably begin to look forward to the day when they use fake plastic instruments to guide characters made of LEGO blocks to rock godhood. The game will probably arrive before summer 2010.
