L.A. Noire has received its first ever gameplay video yesterday, when Rockstar Games and Team Bondi, the two studios behind it, have released the footage onto the web.

Up until now, L.A. Noire received just a few trailers, which emphasized the actual atmosphere of the title, 1940's Los Angeles, and how the facial animation of the characters is more advanced than in any other game.

That was all fine and dandy, but plenty of people wanted actual gameplay footage of the title before they commit to a pre-order or any such thing.

Rockstar realized this, and deployed the first gameplay video of L.A. Noire, showing just how you'll explore the world of this upcoming video game.

As you can see in the footage below, the game doesn't stray too far away from previous Rockstar open-world projects, like Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption.

You can still move around through the world freely, with the minimap in the left side, and interact with people and characters.

The same classic shooting and driving mechanics are also present, as well as the bare knuckle fist fighting one.

The story of the main character, Cole Phelps, is highlighted in the video, showing that you'll guide him through his new police career, starting from a beat cop and working his way up the ranks.

L.A. Noire won't be just about shootouts or high speed chases, as players need to use their detective skills, find evidence, interrogate suspects and follow up on leads in order to solve cases.

This, according to Rockstar, will deliver an accurate representation of what it meant to be a police officer during the 1940s in the LAPD.

L.A. Noire is set to appear on May 17 in North America and May 20 in Europe, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but until then you can check out the full gameplay video below.
