L.A. Noire, one of the few new intellectual properties set to arrive this year, has finally received a concrete release date, as it will be heading to stores on May 17, date confirmed by a new trailer.

The game, developed by Australian studio Team Bondi under the guidance of Rockstar, the company responsible for hit titles like Grand Theft Auto or the recent Red Dead Redemption, is set to be one of the biggest new properties of the year.

The companies have already released a trailer for the game, detailing just how protagonist Cole Phelps, a detective in the LAPD, will have to use his know-how in order to track down criminals and killers.

The game is built using Rockstar's Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), but will implement a new type of face capture technology that is able to reproduce even the faintest movements in a character's face, in order to deliver the actual detective experience.

Now, a new trailer is set to be revealed today, detailing the adventures of Phelps during a 1940s Los Angeles, filled with criminals and intriguing characters.

The trailer was leaked at the end of last week, but Rockstar acted fast and pulled it off the web in all its forms.

The video also confirms the May 17 release date, for North American stores, but Europe and the rest of the world may expect L.A. Noire to hit on May 20.

The game was caught in development hell for quite some time, as it was rumored that Team Bondi had it ready a few years ago, but Rockstar refused, and pushed the project back to the drawing board in order to meet the company's high quality standards.

Seeing as how another Rockstar title that had a similar fate, Red Dead Redemption, turned out to be one of the greatest titles of last year, earning even the Game of the Year award at the Video Game Awards, L.A. Noire might follow in its footsteps.

As of writing, the trailer hasn't been launched, but we'll update the article when it goes live.

Until then, circle May 17 in your calendars, when the title is released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
