For quite some time now memory makers have struggled to increase the frequencies of their desktop DIMMs to levels that were previously considered unattainable and recently this fight has moved into the mobile space, Kingston being the first company to announce an Intel XMP certified 2133MHz memory kit.

Armed with the company's characteristic blue HyperX heatspreader, the modules are guaranteed to run at DDR3 2133MHz using CL 9-11-9-27 timings and 1.5 volts.

According to Kingston this is the fastest SO-DIMM memory available to notebook users and it should be a great addition to an enthusiast grade laptop or to a mobile workstation.

In order to grant the memory the XMP certification, Intel put it through a series of extensive tests, which were run on a platform comprised of the ASRock HD65-MXM motherboard and Core i7-2920XM processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture.

Extreme Memory Profile, or XMP for short, is an SPD extension developed by Intel for DDR3 DIMMs to encode high-performance memory timings.

This basically means that users who don't want to spend their time optimizing memory frequencies and timings can simply go into motherboard's BIOS and select one of the XMP profiles saved by the manufacturer to run the kit at its full speed.

“The 2133MHz HyperX 4GB SO-DIMM memory kits push the current frequency boundaries of notebooks. As future notebooks are built to handle higher speeds, Kingston SO-DIMMs will be ready,” reads the company's official statement.

Kingston's 2133Mhz HyperX memory kit is identified by the KHX2133C9S3K2/4GX part number and sports a pair of 2GB SO-DIMM modules.

Searching for the memory in the offers of some of the most popular e-tailers hasn't returned any results, so we are pretty sure this isn't available in retail just yet. Kingston also didn't provide any information regarding availability and pricing.
