Patriot, a company well known for its high-performance memory solutions, has announced a new series of AMD Edition DDR3 kits for the next-generation Scorpius platform that will be comprised out of the 900-series chipsets and Zambezi FX desktop processors.

Patriot's new Gamer 2 memory modules will be available in a kit form, with 4GB (2x2GB) and 8GB (2x4GB) capacities, in both 1333MHz and 1600MHz speeds.

These frequencies are rather strange for a DIMM kit designed with AMD FX-Series processors in mind as these come with a DDR3-1866MHz integrated memory controller, which can also be overclocked in order to achieve faster clock speeds.

A far better match would be to use Patriot's memory together with an AM3 Phenom II processor based on the Daneb or Thuban core.

Patriot offers the G2 memory modules in both a low latency and enhanced latency configuration. The first run at 7-7-7-20, while the latter are rated as 9-9-9-24 parts, and both of these work at voltages ranging from 1.65 to 1.7 V.

The Gamer 2 series Patriot memory kits feature a low-profile heatspreader design, which should be compatible with most motherboard and CPU cooler configurations.

“AMD has done an outstanding job catering to the do-it-yourself crowd and the next-generation 9-series platform should be no different,” said Les Henry, Patriot Memory’s vice president of Engineering.

“Our Patriot Memory G2 series, AMD Edition modules are the perfect fit for the adventurous overclocker and users seeking system performance,” concluded the company's rep.

According to Patriot, the Gamer 2 memory series will become available later this June at a yet-undisclosed price point.

The Patriot G2 series also includes a series of DDR3 kits specially designed for Intel processors, which feature similar specs to those of the solutions launched today.
