Kineto Wireless, Inc., a leading supplier of solutions that enable delivery of mobile services over broadband, announced today that it had released a software solution for users of devices running under Google's Android operating system, the Smart Wi-Fi Application. The new software is available for all those who own handsets powered by Android 1.6 or later, the company notes.

According to Kineto Wireless, the new Smart Wi-Fi Application for Android has been already proven on the latest Android Development Platform (ADP2), and is currently undergoing testing on Android-based smartphones from a series of leading mobile phone makers around the world. Moreover, the company notes that it is testing the application with wireless carriers on handsets and commercial networks globally.

Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi application comes with the following features: - Turns existing Wi-Fi access points into seamless extensions of the mobile network, increasing coverage and adding capacity in the places where subscribers demand it most – at home and in the office. - Seamlessly integrates with the smartphone’s existing user interface so subscribers receive exactly the same experience (dialer, contacts list, phone number, billing,…) when connected over Wi-Fi or the cellular network. - Improves battery life by hibernating the cellular radio when Wi-Fi is in use. - Depending on operator configuration, the application can also be used abroad to avoid expensive international roaming charges.

The software solution has been released as part of the Smart Wi-Fi Solution, which was officially unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month. The company also plans on showcasing the capabilities of its application at the CTIA Wireless event in Las Vegas. Those who would like to learn more details on the solution should head over to the company's website.

“Mobile operators are anxiously evaluating a wide range of technologies to address the capacity crunch and indoor coverage challenges posed by smartphones,” said Mark Powell, vice president and general manager of Kineto’s Client Business Unit. “Kineto’s Smart Wi-Fi Application is a low-cost, low-risk solution that extends the reach of the mobile network onto Wi-Fi access points already deployed in subscriber’s homes and offices.”
