Halo Wars beaten to the top

In the United Kingdom, the videogame charts are seeing a bit of a shake up as the first big releases of 2009 make their appearance. Wii Fit, which seemed glued to the top spot, has fallen in the charts, allowing Killzone 2 to take first place.

The Guerrilla Games developed shooter, which is exclusively offered on the PlayStation 3 gaming console from Sony, is a new entry and has managed to beat Halo Wars, another new entry and the swan song of Ensemble Studios, which has recently been closed by Microsoft, into number two. In quite the battle of the giants, the first person shooter exclusive for the PS3 managed to beat the real time strategy exclusive for the Xbox 360. This just might be the beginning of a revival of Sony. Street Fighter IV from Capcom, which last week became the fastest selling fighting game ever in the United Kingdom, has fallen from the top position to third place, but it can still pride itself on being sold in more copies than Wii Fit, which sits in fourth spot and is the highest placed Nintendo game in the chart. Professor Layton and the Curious Village for the Nintendo DS has risen up to number five from outside the top ten, while SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is at number six, one place better than last week.

FIFA 09 continues a strong run, sitting on the ball at seventh place, while Call of Duty: World at War from Activision and Treyarch is at number eight. Ben 10: Alien Force, a game based on a popular Cartoon Network show, is in ninth place, just ahead of Mario Kart Wii from Nintendo.

One of the biggest surprises is that Dawn of War II from Relic, which took third spot last week, has fallen out of the top ten and is in danger of going out of the top twenty.
