The gaming industry is a pretty tough one, as a lot of gamers have developed a certain type of loyalty to specific franchises and for developers of new titles it is very hard to make them change their mind. But one of the somewhat newer series managed to break that barrier and went on to achieve a cult status unlike a lot of games that were launched before it, Halo.

Bungie's brainchild and Microsoft's ticket to console success, the shooter got a lot of people hooked on it, thanks to its top-notch multiplayer feature and, most importantly, its intricate story, which detailed the adventures of Master Chief, an enhanced super soldier who needed to defeat the Covenant in order to save the human race.

But, as the latest Halo 3 title ended the Master Chief saga, a lot of gamers became worried that they would never see the famous character, as the expansion to the game, Halo 3: ODST, will detail the adventures of a lone Orbital Drop Shock Trooper instead of the popular character. But it seems that we won't forget Master Chief anytime soon, at least according to the development director of the Halo franchise, Frank O'Connor, who has revealed that “I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief,” while talking about Halo 3: ODST.

About the upcoming expansion, he mentioned that: “It's a lot of game. You play the game through the point of view of an ODST. They are dropped into combat from orbit. They have a rivalry with the Spartans that is well known to the fans of the fiction. We finally let you into their boots as it were. …It's kind of a detective story in a way. But it is much more action-packed than that.”

So it seems that while Microsoft has big plans for the Halo franchise in the future, Master Chief will still play a big part in it, remaining the trademark figure for the series of video games. Hopefully this will mean more great adventures for the character.
