Two of the oddest and most controversial X Factor contestants ever to make it this far, nearly until the semi-finals, have gotten the boot during last night’s live results show: Katie Waissel and Wagner Carrilho are out of the competition.

As we also reported on several previous occasions, both former contestants have gotten their fair share of media attention for other things that their singing ability and x factor.

While the judges have been very much against Wagner ever since the beginning of the latest season, the public never really took a liking to Katie, as the Daily Mail also points out. Now, they’re both out

“Last night, Miss Waissel, 24, and the 54-year-old Brazilian were sent home from the ITV talent show in a double eviction,” the British tab writes.

“Miss Waissel polled the lowest number of public votes and Wagner lost out in a sign-off with Tesco worker Mary Byrne,” the Mail further says.

Even though Wagner lost, which definitely made Simon Cowell very happy, he remained gracious until the very end, smiling and thanking everybody for allowing him to be on the show thus far.

Cowell himself praised the Brazilian singer for being such a good “sport,” while also mentioning an online campaign meant to “manipulate” votes to keep him through to the semi-finals.

“I got to know Wagner over the last few weeks and you’ve been a good sport,” the judge said after the announcement of the elimination as made.

“Why I am happy with the decision is because there were people out there trying to derail this show for different reasons and what has happened tonight is that we have put this show back in the hands of the public,” Cowell added.

Cheryl Cole too praised Wagner for being a good contestant until the very end, despite some differences the two of them had in recent weeks stemming from a comment he made about her, saying she was “just a girl from a council estate who got lucky.”

“Wagner I know me and you haven’t always seen eye to eye. But you have been a gracious man and apologized to me and I accept that,” Cole said.

Here is the video of Wagner’s performance of “Unforgettable,” while below is a clip of Mary Byrne singing “This Is My Life.”
