SouthPeak is releasing more information on its upcoming shooter, called Section 8, set to focus on the exploits of space marines fighting and dying somewhere at the edge of the galaxy sometime in the future.

Section 8 is set to depict the actions of one unit in a war between the Empire and the Arm of Orion in the Frontier Colonies (don’t the names sound really generic?) in a future when power armor and orbital drops are the main means of conducting warfare. It seems that New Madrid will be the first target that players will need to assault in the game, with the 8th Armored unit being the one leading the charge.

The characters will use power armor in order to tackle anything enemies can throw at them, while the game allows players to customize their load out for each battle, creating a need to take care of what weapons they bring to the fight, also offering a wide array of gear that enhances the fighting capabilities of each soldier.

As the name, 8th Armored, implies, the game will feature vehicles and the player will be able to use them to tear through fortified enemy positions. Section 8 has received this denomination because the members of the unit are set to be somewhat on the “crazy” side, taking on missions and risks other soldiers would consider suicidal.

As the most recent press release says, “You are the finest this military has to offer. You are the first-in and last-out force that will set the tone of a battle from the second you touch down. The Section is nothing without the men that make up its ranks. Walk tall and walk proud, gentlemen: you are the greatest fighting force that has ever been assembled.” Be ready to join them on the PC once development is done sometime in 2009.
