In a time where most camcorder manufacturers focus on developing even smaller pocket sized video cams, JVC is different, as the Japanese company decided to expand its flash-based Everio line with three new compact models that are available in a wide selection of colors.

Dubbed the GZ-HM670, GZ-HM690 and GZ-HM450, all these models are able to record images at Full HD resolutions, the footage being stored in the AVCHD format.

Furthermore, all three models feature 40x optical zoom, an SD card slot, a USB port, an HDMI output as well as a 2.7-inch LCD touchscreen and an automatic upload function that can synchronize the recorded footage with your YouTube or Facebook account (once you connect the camcorder to an Internet-connected PC).

On-board flash storage is also among the specification list, the amount varying depending on the model.

However, the similarities end here as the two HM600 camcorders are built using far more powerful hardware, for the GZ-HM670 and GZ-HM690 models JVC deciding on using a back-side illuminated 3.3MP CMOS sensor while the entry-level GZ-HM450 has to settle for a regular 1.5MP CMOS sensor.

Back-illuminated sensors use a novel arrangement of the imaging elements found inside it in order to increase the amount of light captured and thereby improve the low-light performance of the camera.

As a result, the H<600 series features a 4 Lux rating, compared to the 9 Lux that JVC states for the HM450.

JVC plans to start selling the new Everios in the next few days, prices ranging from $950 for the GZ-HM670 with 32GB of internal memory to $540 for the low-end model with just 8GB of on-board memory.

For starters these will go on sale in Japan, availability in other parts of the world being still uncertain at this time as JVC did not release any details in this regard. (via CrunchGear)
