Halo 3: ODST continues to be the videogame that most players are interested in picking up once it is released, according to new data provided by OTX through its GamePlan Insights program to consumer site Gamasutra. Still, its lead over Modern Warfare 2 from Activision seems to be shrinking, while Assassin's Creed 2 from Ubisoft is also making big gains. The data is based on a tracking survey conducted weekly, targeting 1,000 players.

Interestingly, Modern Warfare 2 is the most pre-ordered of the two titles, despite the fact that its release date is further away.

Wii Fit Plus, the game set to bring even more fitness exercises to the Nintendo home console, is at number 4 when it comes to purchase intention, followed by New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii and by the PlayStation 3 exclusive God of War III, which Sony hopes will attract more gamers to its platform.

Games like Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix and Left 4 Dead 2 have become less interesting to gamers since OTX released the same data at some point in July. It's nice to note that the top ten has three Xbox 360 titles, two Nintendo Wii games and five offerings for the PS3. When a game is launched on more than one platform, the Xbox 360 version is more appealing to gamers than the PlayStation 3 version.

The most wanted PlayStation Portable game is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, which is set to arrive later this fall, while the most interesting Nintendo DS game is The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.

When different platform versions of a game are counted together, Modern Warfare 2 becomes the most anticipated title, followed by Assassin's Creed 2 and Guitar Hero 5. The top five is filled by Halo 3: ODST and Guitar Hero 5.
