HTC's latest flagship mobile phones the EVO 3D and the Sensation, have just been overclocked to far more than the stock speed of their processors, being brought up to 1.8GHz.

Both handsets come to the market with dual core application processors clocked in at 1.2GHz, which already boast impressive performance capabilities.

However, there are some who consider that these devices have more to offer to their users, and overclocking their processors is one way to squeeze more from them.

Of course, nothing is done officially, but this has never prevented enthusiasts from taking unofficial routes to achieve something.

To overclock the HTC EVO 3D or the HTC Sensation, users will need to root their devices and load a custom kernel on them.

For the time being, only temp root is available for these handsets, but a Linux loadable kernel module already offered some users the possibility to bring the processors inside their HTC EVO 3D and Sensation handsets to almost 1.8GHz.

To be more precise, the said custom kernel enabled the oveclocking of these processors to 1782MHz, which translated into impressive performance levels.

Apparently, the said kernel module also offers the possibility to bring the speed of the processors to lower speeds too, as well as to even higher ones.

At these speeds, the battery is certainly drained quite fast, but it still sounds like an appealing idea to try at least once.

However, those who will be overclocking their handsets will do so at their own risk, and they will be the only ones held responsible in the event that something goes wrong.

We should also note that the overclocking process was built on the EVO 3D, and that, although Sensation is supported, since the two come with similar hardware, there are some who were unable to overclock their handsets.

Additional info on the matter can be found in the video embedded below. The entire process is described in this thread on the XDA-Developers forum.
