Including HTC Desire and Nexus One

Leading smartphone maker HTC Corporation announced recently that it would include the Super LCD display (SLCD) technology into a series of high-end devices later during the summer. According to the company, the HTC Desire and Nexus One are among the phones that would soon pack the solution, but chances are that other devices would also include it soon.

The SLCD displays reportedly offer “an exceptional natural balanced color,” as well as broad viewing angles and clear contrast, not to mention that they are able to improve the battery life of the device. The new SLCD technology can offer improved performance when compared to earlier LCD panels, while the power management is improved by almost five times, HTC announced.

“HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.”

The SLCD display is powered by Sony’s new VSPEC III technology, which should result in wider viewing angles. However, a recent article on WMPoweruser notes that, although HTC claims SLCD would offer increased battery life, AMOLED displays actually use less power, which would make them the first choice for high-end devices.

Previously, HTC was said to plan including SLCD displays in some of its DROID Incredible devices, in an attempt to resolve stock issues it had with the device due to AMOLED display shortages. Since the new solution would be included in existing mobile phones on the market, chances are that upcoming phones would sport it as well, including the company's new Windows Phone 7 devices, even if nothing was officially announced on this at the moment.
