Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the launch of two new devices powered by Google's Android 2.1 operating system, the HTC Legend and HTC Desire, and now the former has emerged in an unboxing video. The handset is set to soon arrive on the European market, and it seems that the first review units are already making an appearance.

One such unit landed in the hands of SlashGear, which already posted some thoughts on the HTC Legend, along with an unboxing video that can be seen embedded at the bottom of this article. The phone should become available for purchase in Europe next month, and will arrive as the successor of HTC Hero, it seems. Although sporting the same form factor as its predecessor, the Legend still brings forth a unique feature, as its body has been made out of a single piece of aluminum.

Those willing to purchase the HTC Legend when it becomes available will find in the box the device itself, the battery, an A/C adapter, microUSB cable, and a wired hands-free headset. A microSD memory card is also expected to be included in the package. The handset is said to be much thinner than the HTC Hero, mainly due to the brushed aluminum finish it comes around with.

When speaking of performance, the HTC Legend should be a little faster than the predecessor, since it comes with a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor inside, a chip faster than Hero's 528MHz one. The AMOLED touchscreen display is said to be bright and color-saturated, while the onscreen QWERTY keyboard seems pretty responsive.

Overall, the first impression is that the operating system on board of Legend can offer about the same experience as the platform on other HTC devices with the Sense solution on board, yet a series of new features are also there, and make the device even more appealing. The phone is expected to become a popular device on the market, and the price tag it is expected to feature should help it a lot in this direction. More unboxing photos with Legend are available here.
