The latest mobile phones Taiwanese handset vendor HTC unveiled to the world with Google's Android 2.1 operating system on board, the HTC Desire and HTC Legend, are reportedly on their way to the United States market too, and should land there during the first half of the ongoing year, it seems. Each of them will be picked up by a wireless operator in the country, rumor has it, with Desire headed for AT&T's lineup, and with Sprint getting the Legend on its airwaves as the Hero2.

According to BGR, which brought the news to light, the story is a little more complicated than it seems. AT&T has been already rumored to get its own version of Nexus One in Google's web store, and that will still happen, the news site notes, adding that Desire will actually be that AT&T unit sold via Google. However, the phone will also land on AT&T's shelves, dubbed Desire, but with a series of changes from the actual device launched last week in Barcelona.

While there are no exact details available on what the said changes might include, BGR says that they might be related only to “some material/finish/color changes to the casing.” The handset is expected to arrive at AT&T sometime in the May-June time frame, but no info on its price tag emerged. One way or the other, it should be interesting to see how the two models will go along on the market, since one will be sold via Google's web store only, just as Nexus One is delivered at the moment.

As for the HTC Legend, the handset is expected to arrive at Sprint as the successor of HTC Hero, dubbed Hero2, and should also sport a series of changes from the original model. Most probably, Sprint will chose to make about the same modifications as it did with Hero, meaning that we're to expect it to feature a more rounded and less edgy look. No release date for Hero2 emerged, and the rumor is still unconfirmed, yet there are great chances that it might prove true in the end.
