Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just announced that it would have its new HTC Incredible S Android-based smartphone available in Australia exclusively on the airwaves of wireless carrier Optus.

The handset would be available this way only for about one month, starting with May 1st, it seems, but specific details on the launch, including info on the handset's price tag, were not unveiled for the time being.

However, rumor has it that Optus would aim at having the new HTC Incredible S available on its airwaves for $0 on either a $49 or $59 Cap.

On top of that, various reports on the upcoming availability of the new Android device on the airwaves of Virgin, for $0 on the $39 Easy Cap, which would certainly sound more appealing.

For the time being, however, nothing was officially confirmed on the availability of the new device through both carriers at launch, but more should emerge in the not too far future, so stay tuned.

The HTC Incredible S was unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with Google's Android platform on board.

It should land at Optus running under Gingerbread, but without the new HTC Sense UI 3.0, it seems.

The handset's specifications list would include a 4-inch touchscreen display, with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and a 1GHz application processor inside, complemented by 768MB of RAM.

Moreover, the new device arrives on shelves with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 720p HD video recording capabilities, and with a 1.3MP camera on the front, for video calling.

Other specs of the new device would include 1.1GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Moreover, it arrives with Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in GPS receiver, and support for 3G networks.
