It looks like HTC will be among the first handset manufacturers to launch a quad-core Android smartphone, namely the HTC Edge.

Although nothing is official, it appears that the folks over at Pocketnow were tipped about the alleged HTC Edge superphone.

According to them, the smartphone will be HTC's first device with quad-core CPU and will be stuffed with an AP30 Tegra 3 processor manufactured by NVIDIA, which embeds four 1.5 GHz cores to make the Android experience even smoother.

In addition, the HTC Edge is expected to sport a huge 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen with 720p screen resolution, as well as a superior 8-megapixel camera with 28mm, f/2.2 lens and secondary camera for video calls.

If this is not impressive enough, the Edge will be delivered with Beats Audio hardware and some of the best earbuds manufactured by Dr. Dre's audio company.

On the inside, the superphone features 32 GB of internal memory, 1 GB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion, possibly up to 64 GB.

Bluetooth 4.0 is also included along with HSDPA support that provides users with up to 21Mbps download speeds.

Unfortunately, there was no mention of LTE or any specific version of Android, but it is likely that the HTC Edge will be released with Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

Software-wise, the leaked HTC Edge should be bundled with unannounced HTC content services, including HTC Read bookstore, HTC Listen music store, as well as HTC Play gaming hub.

It is also worth mentioning that the HTC Edge might be the first phone to run the Sense 4.0 user interface.

HTC Edge will not make it to the market by the end of this year though. Instead, the superphone is expected to hit shelves in late Q1 or early Q2 2012.
