The wait is over for T-Mobile UK's HTC Desire owners, as their mobile phone carrier has just announced the rolling-out of the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for them. According to the wireless operator, the new firmware update is already being deployed for its users, and should be sent over the air to all of them during the following weeks.

Here's what the carrier said on its support forums:

"We have some exciting news for all our Desire users.

The 2.2 firmware update (FroYo) will be available from today and will be sent over the air (OTA) direct to your phone over the coming weeks.

Be sure to save all your personal data before you start downloading. That's because the upgrade will delete all personal info including software applications from the device." A few days ago, the company announced via Twitter that the new software solution is set to arrive on HTC Desire units on its airwaves later during this month, and it seems that things were put in motion faster than originally expected.

Even so, the software update arrives on HTC Desire a few months after the Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation started to push it out to its users in Europe.

At that time, the company updated only unlocked HTC Desire units, and announced that carrier-branded models would receive the solution at a later date.

It's a common fact that the new Android 2.2 Froyo update is set to deliver a nice range of enhancements to HTC Desire devices out there, including a series of performance improvements.

One of the nicest new features of the solution is the included support for Adobe's Flash Player 10.1 technology, which offers users the possibility to access more websites out there, as well as enjoy new content available online.

As stated above, T-Mobile UK kicked off the Android 2.2 update today, though it remains to be seen if all things go according to plan, as well as how long it would take for all Desire owners on its airwaves to receive the OTA firmware.
