After a series of early news leaks, Activision has confirmed that the new Guitar Hero videogame bears the name Warriors of Rock and that it will be coming complete with a fresh, redesigned, guitar controller set to reflect the rock-oriented nature of the title. The publisher is not ready to talk about the launch date for the game but expect it in time to take on upcoming Rock Band 3 from Harmonix and MTV Games, the first to offer complete keyboard simulation for all its tracks.

The Quest mode, already shown off in magazine previews, will task eight Guitar Hero characters with saving the world by helping the Demi God of Rock take down The Beats. To do this, they will need to play some hard rock and turn into actual mythical rock warriors with fantasy elements. It all sounds a bit like last year’s Brutal Legend but without the real time strategy stage battles offered.

Activision is saying that the new game will allow the player to import most of the tracks launched for Guitar Hero World Tour and subsequent iterations in the series. There's also a new Quickplay+ game mode featuring13 gameplay challenges for each of the songs and leaderboards are introduced for all tracks in the new mode. The company has named some of the challenges delivered as Band Streak, High Score and Power Challenge.

David Haddad, who is the Chief Operating Officer working on the Guitar Hero series, said, “Guitar Hero has set the standard for music based gaming and with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and the game’s all-new Quest Mode, robust and authentic set list, over-the-top challenges and rock-inspired new hardware, we are once again bringing the soul and energy of rock n’ roll to fans around the world.”
